Welcome

This exhibition was conceived in 2009 as a response to a request to mount a faculty exhibition to showcase the work being produced by the faculty of the Painting Department at the Savannah Campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design. The resulting exhibition includes full time faculty, part time faculty, and visiting artists who were involved with the department during the 2008/2009 academic year.

Rather than schedule a show at a local gallery it was suggested that we attempt to find an international venue. The resulting schedule is more then we could have hoped for. This exhibition would not have happened were it not for the work of Blazo Kovacevic. His drive and determination has given us this remarkable opportunity.

Wednesday November 10: All our planned exhibitions in Europe are successfully completed. We are now focusing on the logistics of their transportation back to Savannah. As a result of these 8 exhibitions we have two beautiful catalogs published. We had a great number of art lovers visiting our exhibitions. Artwork from the exhibitions are featured in more the 40 press clippings and reviews from many local and regional newspapers and magazines. Numerous websites and blogs also reported and announced our show. We have had live TV and radio broadcasts (even satellite) and recorded interviews and reports from our openings. Savannah College of Art and Design is probably now the most well known US art university in this part of East European region. But some artwork will remain in Serbia for additional two years. We just received wonderful news that Ambassador Warlick selected artwork to be exhibited in US residency in Belgrade as part of the Art in Embassies program. We are honored with her decision and all selected artists agreed to participate in this great program.

Friday September 10: We had exceptional party/reception for all foreign diplomats and cultural attachés last night in O3ONE. This party was hosted by Mrs. Anna Marie Moore, cultural attaché of the US Embassy in Belgrade. We had opportunity to talk with so many people from various educational, cultural and art related organizations. Many new ideas and projects are discussed and I am grateful to Mrs. Moore for organizing such a successful event. Highlight of the night is expressed interest by Ambassador Warlick to include some of the artists from the show in her selection for the Art in Embassies program where artist have opportunity to get maximum exposure by allowing his/her artwork to be on display in embassy for several years.

Tuesday September 7: Last night we had second opening in Belgrade. This time we had reception in O3ONE space with Blazo's streaming video of the baggage inspection performed live and seen on several remote locations using Internet. We had a nice group of people attending.

Tuesday August 24: Our Montenegro phase of the Why Go Anywhere Else? project is officially over. In day or two we are heading towards Belgrade, Serbia. I am very pleased to report that our shows in Serbia are now endorsed and supported by the US embassy in Serbia. That means that galleries that offered their exhibition spaces for free are now able to receive monetary grant that will make possible for them to invest in our shows and promotion. This is exceptional news! Unfortunately drawing show that we offered to the US embassy and Ambassador's residency could not be realized at this time due to short period of time needed for preparation. But some other opportunities are still present so we are bringing our drawing show with us to Serbia.

Sunday August 8: This was the most spectacular opening that I have ever witnesed. We had somwhere from 300 to 400 people on the opening. Voja Brajovic famous actor from this region opened our show. We had huge Kotor city orchestra performing music inspired by our show. I had to address this crowd too and to talk about our authors. It was not an easy task. Ambasadors and othere diginitaries were present too. And today in two major Serbian daily nespapers we have articles about our show. Few Montenegrin ones wrote about opening too. Saturday July 17: Last night in Modern gallery in Budva, Montenegro we had our second opening.
